Amollo Jennifer Speaking about Nodding Syndrome to Ugandans!

Amollo Jennifer, a student at the Hope for Humans Care Center, presents at the regional forum on the state of the Ugandan child.

Jennifer shared her personal experience as a child with NS and the challenges faced by children with NS. She made a special appeal to the government and all development partners to join hands with Hope for Humans to find a lasting solution for NS in Uganda.

Amazingly excellent speech! Jennifer wrote this speech herself. I got the pleasure of being one the people, who heard her practice her speech, the night before on Skype video. She spoke in her native language. I did not understand what she was saying, but I did not need to. I could see and feel her passion that she wants to share with the world about nodding syndrome.

Thank you to our partners GNI and Geneva Global for supporting our community awareness efforts.

The Lancet Neurology “How Goes the Nodding Syndrome War”

This month the prestigious Lancet Neurology wrote an article about Nodding Syndrome. Writer Adrian Burton begins with Uganda’s initial attempts to understand the disease, challenges faced by the government’s health teams, and HOPE FOR HUMANS’ impact as the only NGO working to provide care for these children and their families.

Hope for Humans is honored to be a part of this publication and appreciate Adrian for recognizing our work with Nodding Syndrome and the need for urgency in providing care for children with this horrible disease.

Hope for Humans is still the leading Nonprofit/NGO addressing the particular needs of Nodding Syndrome (NS) afflicted communities in Northern Uganda. We operate the first comprehensive care center for sufferers of NS. At the centers, we continue to provide a holistic approach to providing dignity, comfort, safety and hope to everyone afflicted within the NS communities. Through you our impact extends to the children, the family, and the extended community members.

We have witnessed significant improvements in the lives of the children we serve through our one-of-a-kind programs. Many milestones have been accomplished. Just a few major highlights this year are as follows:

  • Today, we help the most children in the history of our organization. Our original home serves as a success story and model to replicate. Early next year we will open our second facility!
  • Many of our children are re-entering into mainstream school. Through our medical care and special needs education program, our kids are making great strides and are gaining their lives back.
  • Our team continues to lead the way in research, knowledge, and vision for finding a cure for NS. In July of 2015, Hope for Humans facilitated the second annual NS conference in Uganda. This event allowed us to educate and collaborate with researchers locally and from all over the world.

We need many supporters walking on this journey with us. We will not stop until a cure for this disease is found. With your help, we can do even more. As we move toward growing the number of children we serve, will you consider transforming the life of a child by becoming one of our ChampioNS.

Thanks to all of you who have already signed up! Please help us reach our goal of 20 new monthly donors by September 30th!

Today, We Need You – Our Biggest CHAMPIONS!

As we approach the end of 2015, we are reaching out to YOU, our strongest advocates, to ask for help. During the month of September, we are inviting you to join our CHAMPIONSTEAM! Becoming a member means you have made a commitment to become a Champion for children afflicted by Nodding Syndrome in Uganda.

As you know, we invest very highly into our children through our special needs education program. This program provides medical care, scholastic work, music and art therapy, and overall physical needs to each child in our care. Children, who once were forgotten, are now back in mainstream school with greatly reduced seizures – and have been given hope.

During the last 20 days of September, we are seeking 20 individuals to join our CHAMPIONS TEAM with a monthly commitment of $25 or more. You will have the special privilege of hearing directly from our kids through recent, first-hand accounts of their experiences at Hope for Humans and how your generosity has changed their life.

Thank you for considering this monthly commitment. We can’t do this important work without you!

Sincerely,
Suzanne Gazda, M.D.
